Fashion and art have enthralled me since I was young. I recall playing dress-up with my mom’s clothes and makeup and wearing my silly beaded necklaces, feather boas, or pink flower sunglasses at any occasion possible. I have, and will, always love getting dressed up; this is flawlessly illustrated in my closet. Pieces of my different fashion phases: the preppy Vineyard Vines and Lilly Pulitzer of Middle School, to my more current love of vintage fashion and streetwear. My Middle School dress code provided little room for individuality, but since going to high school, with a more relaxed dress code, I’ve been able to try different styles --velvet pants and statement jackets-- and have even worn a few of my own pieces to school. My love of fashion and design stems from its unique ability to cater to each person's desires. People can show off, blend in, or stand out. Armed with my lure towards vogue style, I hope to express heartfelt creativity, explore authentic beauty and encourage others to do the same.

From Dior’s New Look, Chanel Suit to YSL’s Mondrian Look, as summed up perfectly by my favorite Gossip Girl character, Blair Wardolf, “fashion is the most powerful art there is—it’s movement, design and architecture all at once.” Since a young age, I have been fascinated by not only by the aestheticism of fashion itself, but the history and culture it embodies: Zoot Suits and discrimination against Mexican-Americans, flapper costumes and Prohibition as well as counter-culture fashion and the Vietnam War. For its integration of various aspects, fashion has given me lenses to see the world like no other, and I hope The Haute Binger will allow your insights to reach new level of depths. Binge away!

Growing up, my favorite past time was going through my mother’s closet from the 90s and early 2000s and playing dress up. There was always something dreamy about the way a pleated dress swishes when you walk around, something mysterious about the way a straw hat exposes only half of the face, something empowering about that scarlet red lip. Fashion is a tool to enhance and express different aspects of our personalities. My closet document my growth and experiences, from the day I decided to boycott dresses because I thought my mom was sexist to buying a jacket that made me fall in love with vintage fashion. I’ve always been attracted to the story behind a piece of clothing. I want our blog to be more than just a shopping guide. I want to address the struggles and triumphs in fashion: the history behind the iconic mini skirt, the return of the 80s statement shoulders, how denim became an everyday necessity, etc. At the end of the day, I stand by the belief that you look best in a piece of clothing that you cherish and feel the best in.
